Pastor Emlyn Martinez is the eldest daughter of four girls. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 6, 1970. In 1976, her family moved because her father was in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, where she spent most of her childhood years.
Raised in a Catholic background, Pastor Emlyn had a different view of worshipping. One of her sister’s babysitters kept inviting the family to come to a Pentecostal Charismatic church. She thought it was “weird” when she first attended the service where there was clapping and raising of hands. She was resistant at first when the pastor presented a call to salvation. She then found herself kneeling, crying out to God, and asking forgiveness at the altar.
In awe of her new relationship in Christ, she still battled the peer pressure in high school of still weaning her old worldly ways and learning to live for Jesus Christ. Finally, in her senior year of high school, she decided to give up her life 100% for the Lord and dedicated herself to live for Him. It was a decision she made up in her mind, because walking in the world and living for the Lord at the same time it was too hard! Now, determined and focused, she knows that the life she has is to serve Him, fall more in love with Him, and walk in His ways.
The whole family was transformed from a home that was about to fall apart into Godly home. Attending church more consistently, home bible studies and prayer meetings were their new lifestyle. There was a tremendous change for the good for the entire family.
On a New Years Eve, December 31st, 1988 at one of the home bible studies in San Diego, Pastor Emlyn met Pastor Rocky. The both of them admired each others desires to serve the Lord and as months passed they knew in their hearts they were called to be husband and wife, serving side by side. On April 8, 1989 they exchanged their marriage vows in San Diego.
Pastor Emlyn was a college student, new housewife and expecting their first child in 1990. Balancing this life, she still managed going to Bible College and obtaining her Associates Degree in Theology in 1994. She also obtained her Child Development credits to become a Preschool Teacher. She operated a Home Day Care Business for about 6 years. With this experience and education, Pastor Emlyn’s desire and dream is to have a full time operational Christian Preschool affiliated with the church.
Now working full time in the ministry, she still finds herself balancing her life as a housewife, mother, and to pastor along side with her husband. She loves what she does and finds joy in building herself up in the Lord, her family and the church.
